Majors: communication studies and psychology

How did you find Communication Studies?
At the end of my freshman year, I was meeting with an advisor from University Career Services. We had gone through so many options for majors and I wasn't set on anything. She finally had just briefly mentioned I look at Communication Studies. I checked it out, enrolled in several classes for the fall, and I really enjoyed them, so I stuck with it.

What do you like most about being a Communication Studies major?
I really enjoy all of the real-world application that comes with the classes. I feel as though many of the classes I've taken have given me new and unique perspectives, and that I've been able to make connections from what I've learned to things that occur in my life.

What has been your favorite class in Communication?
I have to say I have two classes that I have enjoyed so much, I can't pick between the two. One was COMM 311: Intercultural and Intergroup Communication with Megan Cardwell, and the other was COMM 354: Health Communication with Morgan April. Both of these classes were so interesting, had really cool applications and opportunities to experience things outside of class, had a unique discussion environment, and the instructors
were fantastic.

What cool experiences have you had at UNL?
In my time here at UNL, I've had the opportunity to serve as a peer mentor in the William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Community for two years now. This learning community has shown me so much opportunity and support, and I have been able to take on a role to be able to provide the same support to other students in the program. Through my role as a peer mentor, I have met so many incredible people and I've been able to participate in some amazing experiences that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to do.

What are your post-graduation plans?
As of right now I am graduating in December 2020 and I plan on moving to Chicago. I am currently looking at going into the academic/service area, and I am specifically interested in school counseling, advising, or working in higher education. I would also love to be able to work with dogs in some capacity.
