This past weekend, the Cornhusker Speech and Debate Team earned 8th place at the 2022 American Forensic Association National Speech Tournament after competing in eleven events over the course of three days. This year the tournament was hosted at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

8th place at the tournament
All-American Team

Seniors Ben Czapla and Clare Frances Kennedy earned a place on the American Forensic Association All-American Team—two of only 12 students nationally. This selection recognizes students beyond the area of competition. It serves as a crowning touch to those seniors who have demonstrated outstanding qualities in forensic activity, scholarship and service.

The Speech and Debate Team is part of the university’s Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department explores human communication as it shapes and is shaped by relationships, institutions, and societies. Its main areas of expertise are interpersonal and family communication, organizational communication, and rhetoric and public culture.

Congratulations to the outstanding members of the Cornhusker Speech and Debate Team and the coaches who lead them!
