For senior Nebraska Women's Gymnastics athlete Emma, each season she’s spent as a Husker has been marked by growing success. The team’s 2023 season concluded with a post-season run for the first time since 2019, while Emma was honored as Co-Regional Gymnast of the Year. Last year marked a five-year high in fan attendance, with Emma nabbing First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the second-straight year.

Ahead of this very special 50th season, Emma is reflecting every bit as much on the personal growth she’s experienced being a Husker as she is on the athletic accomplishments.

“I’m honestly just really proud of how much I’ve grown as a person over the last couple years. I came here as someone who was very shy and would never talk to anyone. I wasn't even really loving gymnastics at that time.”

A two-time Olympic alternate, Emma came to Nebraska after an illustrious junior career across Canadian and international gymnastics. The environment she’s found at Nebraska, however, has reframed her relationship to her sport.

“The coaches, the teammates and this whole atmosphere have really helped me fall in love with the sport all over again. I feel more confident today than I ever have.”

That confidence, along with the confidence shared by the entire team, is something she’s looking forward to carrying into this historic season for Husker Women’s Gymnastics.

“Every year that I've been here, we've gotten better and better and I'm just excited to see how much further we can go. We have some really big goals we're striving for this season — seeing how close this team can get to achieving those is going to be really special.”

And while the team looks to build their momentum, they’re also hoping the fans continue their own momentum of support to cheer them along their journey.

"Our fan attendance has been growing since I've been here, which is so amazing. It will be so cool to see how much further we can get with attendance this year, especially with it being our 50th year.”
