Center coaches look forward to helping students enrolled in COMM 101, 209, and 286 develop speaking notes, overcome speech anxiety, and improve speech delivery. Although we are happy to give suggestions to help you improve, you should always defer to your instructor's feedback on assignments and guidance.
Before working with a coach on any extemporaneous speech, meet with your instructor. We look forward to helping you improve your delivery with respect to your instructor's feedback.
- Coaching sessions are 30 minutes
- Receive one-on-one coaching for specific speech assignments
- Receive delivery feedback on any speech or presentation for school or professional events
Hours and Planning Ahead
To meet with a center coach, you must make an appointment or visit the center during walk-in hours. Appointments are not necessary during walk-in hours. However, meeting with a coach is not guaranteed, depending on the wait time and demands. Students are strongly encouraged to give at least 40 minutes notice if canceling their appointments. Cancellations are made through the scheduling system.
Any changes to our hours will generally be posted by Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST. The center's tutors will make every effort to maintain posted hours. If the center needs to close, students with appointments will be notified as soon as possible via the email used for the Center for Communication Excellence registration. We appreciate your patience on those rare occasions when the center closes unexpectedly.
Do not come to the center for an initial visit on the same day the assignment is due. Students should aim to leave plenty of time to visit the center and make suggested adjustments to speeches before assignment due dates.
