Carlin to speak on 2016 presidential election Sept. 19

Diana Carlin, an alumna of the graduate program in Communication Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will talk about the 2016 presidential election on September 19 at 7 p.m. in the City Union Ballroom.

Her talk, "The 2016 Presidential Race: Voter Anger, History Making, the Debates, and What it All Means — Well, Maybe," is designed to help the audience learn more about the election and prepare for the upcoming presidential debates.

She is Professor Emerita and former Associate Provost for Graduate and Global Education at SLU. She was Dean of Graduate Education and International Programs at University of Kansas.

Carlin created DebateWatch and advised the Presidential Commission on Presidential Debates, authoring The 1992 Presidential Debates in Focus and The Third Agenda in U.S. Presidential Debates: DebateWatch and Viewer Reaction.

Carlin has been a consultant for the U.S. State Department and non-governmental organizations in several countries establishing political debate traditions.

The talk is hosted by the Department of Communication Studies, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Speech & Debate Program, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
